Grant Writing & Nonprofit Consulting

Your organization has a story worth funding. Let’s tell it well.

Finding the right funding opportunity is only the beginning. A strong grant proposal has to translate your organization’s work into a clear case for support: what you do, why it matters, what it costs, and what a funder can help make possible.

I provide freelance grant writing and nonprofit development support with a particular focus on arts organizations, music and education programs, festivals, and small nonprofits.

As the founder and Executive-Artistic Director of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra, I have spent more than a decade working on both sides of nonprofit leadership: developing programs, building budgets, cultivating community partnerships, securing contributed resources, fundraising, and writing grants to turn ambitious ideas into sustainable programs.

My experience includes successful private-foundation proposals, major and individual giving, sponsorship and community partnerships, grant prospecting, budget development, and the cultivation of substantial in-kind support.

Whether you already know exactly which grant you want to pursue or need help figuring out where to begin, I can meet your organization where it is.

How It Works

We’ll begin with a conversation about your organization, the project you want to fund, and where you are in the grant process.

For proposal-writing projects, I’ll review the funding opportunity before confirming the scope and project fee. You’ll provide the organizational documents, program information, financial information, and other materials necessary to develop an accurate application.

From there, I’ll develop the proposal in collaboration with you, incorporating your organization’s voice and expertise while shaping the information into a compelling, funder-focused narrative.

Grant funding is competitive, and no ethical grant writer can guarantee an award. What I can provide is thoughtful research, strong writing, careful attention to funder requirements, and a proposal that represents your organization and its work as effectively as possible.

A Particular Love for the Arts

Small arts organizations often accomplish extraordinary things with remarkably limited cash resources.

I know that landscape firsthand.

My background includes founding and operating a nonprofit music festival, developing free community programming, coordinating artists and community partners, building cash and in-kind budgets, and seeking support for everything from

musician housing and meals to programming and organizational sustainability.

If you are running an orchestra, chamber music series, festival, community arts organization, educational program, or similarly ambitious small nonprofit, you do not have to explain to me why donated rehearsal space matters, why artist compensation belongs in the budget, or why a small grant can completely change what your organization is able to accomplish.

Let’s Talk About Your Project

Have a grant in mind? Looking for funding but not sure where to start?

Tell me a little about your organization, what you hope to fund, and any deadline you're working toward. I’ll let you know whether the project is a good fit and recommend the best next step.
