Beginning Piano Lessons in Kansas City
Building a Universal Musical Foundation through the Keys
The Philosophy
At The Clever Clarinetist, I believe the piano is the "map" of music. While my primary expertise lies in the woodwind family, the keyboard is the essential tool that brings music theory to life in a tactile, visual way. I offer beginning piano lessons to help students of all ages build a rhythmic and harmonic foundation that serves them for a lifetime, regardless of which instrument they eventually choose to master.
The Studio
Experience Students learn on a Yamaha CLP-785. This professional-grade instrument features GrandTouch action and wooden keys, providing the authentic touch, weight, and tone-sensitivity of a concert grand piano. This ensures that even from the first lesson, students develop the finger strength and nuance required for high-level artistry.
Tailored Methods
-
For Children: I utilize the Bastien Piano Method, which uses a "multi-key" approach to get young students comfortable moving across the entire keyboard and reading fluently from day one.
-
For Adults: We use Faber Adult Piano Adventures. This method is designed for the mature learner, combining technical skill-building with sophisticated arrangements and deep dives into music theory.
Who These Lessons Are For
-
Young Beginners (Ages 5+): Establishing coordination and literacy.
-
Aspiring Woodwind Players: Building the theory skills needed before picking up a reed.
-
Adult Learners: A supportive environment to finally start (or return to) the keys.
