Recorder Lessons: The Gateway to Woodwinds

The Philosophy

 

The recorder is often misunderstood as a "classroom toy," but it is, in fact, a legitimate historical woodwind with a rich repertoire and a demanding technical tradition. Because the recorder requires no reed and has a simplified bore, it is the perfect "gateway" instrument. It allows students to focus entirely on the two most critical aspects of wind playing: breath control and finger coordination.

Regardless of whether you are a hobbyist or a young student preparing for the clarinet, our recorder lessons emphasize:

• Pure Tone Production: Learning to support the air without the resistance of a reed.

• Articulate Fingerings: Developing the dexterity required for all woodwind instruments.

• Historical Literacy: Exploring the beautiful Baroque and Renaissance music written specifically for the recorder.

 

Flexible Learning Formats

 

Unlike my piano offerings, recorder lessons are available both in-person in Kansas Cityand online worldwide. This makes it an ideal choice for students who want a "Clever Clarinetist" education but require the flexibility of a digital format.

Lessons are also offered in a variety of durations and rates:

• 30 Minutes ($40 weekly, $45 biweekly, and $50 ad hoc)

• 45 Minutes ($50 weekly, $55 biweekly, and $60 ad hoc)

• 60 Minutes ($60 weekly, $65 biweekly, and $70 ad hoc)

• 90 Minutes ($80 weekly, $90 biweekly, $100 monthly/ad hoc)

• 120 minutes ($120 ad hoc only)
